A Message From Robert...
I am 18 years old and will be finishing my two year BTEC in
Music at The BRIT School this coming May (2009).
I started playing piano when I was very young, and still I play and compose by
ear. I also sing and produce my own work, as well for other up and coming singer
songwriters in Sweden, Norway, USA & Israel.
Having given up on formal piano lessons many years ago and in between studying
music, I have singing lessons at The BRIT School. I have been trained to sing in
various genres ranging from my own comfort zone to swing, ballads to opera. My
voice is best described as alto-baritone. I feel privileged to be trained and
taught by the very talented Caroline Herail.
My own work varies from slow to fast moving modern pop ballads, and I
deliberately ensure that my work is reasonably easy to orchestrate. I have a
burning passion to have some of my work used in film scores as well as for open
stage, Singers and recorded performances.
Aside of my own work, I really enjoy singing cover sings of The Rat Pack, as
well as the work of Elton John, Michael Buble, & Neil Sedaka. I really enjoy
singing and performing Cole Porters’ work, which is truly brilliantly composed.
I find that to perform and sing the above genres properly requires musical
discipline, timing and a reasonable vocal interpretation of the song to make it
sound as it was intended.

I try to ensure that my compositions, (ballads or musical theatre), have as wide
an appeal both age group wise and culturally. I believe music is a great
leveller and can break through difficult barriers and boundaries, no matter how
high.
In mid 2008, one of my musical theatre songs “Coming Home” was successfully
performed in The Bloomsbury Theatre London, and at The Fairfield Halls Croydon,
by the BRIT School Music strand, Musical Theatre, Dance & Theatre Strands.
The BRIT School put on a annual production called “The Silent Streets” at The
Fairfield Halls, Croydon, and The Bloomsbury Theatre, Camden, North London.
The storyline was based around evacuated children, returning home after the second world war had ended. I was asked to write the central theme song entitled “Coming Home” which was performed at both the above venues by a full cast to over 3000 people!
I should mention that my Dad, Philip, helps writing many of my lyrics, including
Coming Home, Summer Feeling, Once Again and many other numbers. He is always
around to offer guidance and constructive criticism of my new and recorded work
before it gets performed or recorded.
In the summer of 2007, we entered the UK Song-Writing Contest, which is judged
by music industry professionals. We entered ten separate items, five songs and
five sets of lyrics. The end result was seven “Semi-Finalist” awards and three
“Highly Commended” for all of our ten entries. Not a bad result considering the
vast competition we were up against.
Under the Pop genre the following songs were entered: Summer Feeling, Out Of
This World, Mosaic*, Once Again and Sandra's Song.
*The Lyrics for Mosaic were written by Lauren John. I composed all of the music
and sang all of the songs. Mosaic reached the semi finals in both the Pop Genre,
and in the Lyrics Only category for Lauren.
The following song Lyrics written by Philip, (my Dad) made it to the semi
finals:
Once Again, and Summer Feeling.
The Lyrics for Out of this World and Sandra's Song both were rated as “Highly
Commended”.
Dad and I continue to write together, though I do collaborate with other singer
songwriters.
We haven’t since 2007 entered the UK Song writing Contest, as I am either tied
up with my studies, and when I am not studying, I am recording (myself and
others) or performing around London and the South East.
